Celebrating the Members:
The Core of the Community
The RPing community continues to grow and GP is also one of the fast growing communities of RPers on the internet. Every day it, and to see members enjoy and connect with one other.
Till next time,
LadyLare at least seven to eight new members popping in, and every month it exceeds thirty. With the vast number of members, there will be ups and downs in managing and sometimes, there will be an undesired lack of activity.
A community’s growth and relation depends on the activities they do together. While the site may focus on catering to mature RPers, members do tend to look for other things the site can offer. Maybe it's something that can connect to their writing to help them improve, or something else entirely that would ease their imaginative mind? Because of this desire to expand GP's horizons, events have become a popular medium that create community growth and relationships between members and staff alike. Here are some events that happened on Guilty Pleasure that garnered not only fun memories, but also created a bond between members.
Pink, one of the Administrators of the site, created an event to celebrate the site reaching ten thousand members! She called it “The 10K Greek Event” where everything was themed Greek Mythology. Twelve Gods were selected, and each god gave three challenges. Whoever won became that god's Champion. A lot of people participated and I was able to interview some of the participants!
Warpster77 said his favorite challenge was the one with Poseidon, where they were tasked to write a story from the perspective of a horse. He loves events that focus more on the creative writing of the members. For Banana Fan, she liked the Greek Event for its many choices of challenges to participate in. Many members also noted the creativity of the challenges, and they are hoping to see more.
The highlights of the event were the coliseum tournament, hosted by several staff members and community moderators, inviting members to create their own character that would face different mythological monsters.
The “Respect Event” was organized by the Ambassador Kalinda, and members saw a different light in the community of GP. When asked why she wanted to put together this event, Kalinda said, “Because I know how easy it is to disrespect people over the internet….. I wanted our members to be aware of that and I wanted to show to every individual on GP that we can succeed as a respectful and positive community.”
John Thaemos was able to show what respect means to him through this event. When asked if the event had changed his perspective on the site, he said “I think, we don't always agree with others. We can respect their viewpoint. As we are all entitled to one. I feel like the site is more than the sum of its parts. That they have offered a perspective to all on the website, that not everyone gets to see in their daily lives.”
Holden Caulfield said “…I did get to read the things that other people had written down about their own experiences. Really put things into perspective.”
The event had several threads where members were to share some insight about respect, shout-outs to people they respect on GP, and a thread that gave a chance to members to apologize for something bad they felt guilty about.
The “Pride Event” was organized by sirencall in celebration of Pride Month. The event showcased the members' love and support for the LGBTQ community. It gave everyone a way to show the positivity and acceptance of the differences of people on the site.
ThePurplePriestess, part of the Matchmaking Team, was asked how she felt about the Pride Candle Light Vigil. She said, “…it made me really feel like there were some awesome people left in the world despite all the bed things that happen.”
Events bring a community closer together. It helps them understand differing points of view, especially since GP is a community that stems from the internet. Sometimes online, we can find it difficult to understand a simple sentence since we do not hear the tone of the speaker's voice. Hence, we rely solely on our own interpretations of the words themselves, which can lead to misunderstandings. Events and activities helps us overcome these misunderstandings. With a lot of events in store for all members of GP, I can't wait to write about

July 2017
Hey guys, it’s Pink! I’m back with July's site updates and events article.
The Style Team is looking for new members! Anyone who loves to create all kinds of graphics is encouraged to apply. You can find the application here or you can contact Muse for more information or with any questions you might have. We look forward to seeing every applicant's work.
On a more serious note, politics, political topics, and other related things will no longer be permitted on GP. This includes statuses, threads, jokes, commentary, polls, petitions, and any other thing in relation to the matter. If you must know why, know that simply we are not a political site, we don’t want to be a political site. The political arguments that have been occurring have been taking away from GP as it is intended to be. Also, the Site Rules are getting an overhaul and will be up soon (maybe even before this is published! Haha!), make sure you read them thoroughly when they are posted so that you continue to do your best to make GP a friendly home to everyone.

For events, The Month of Respect event has ended; make sure to read up on all the stuff your fellow members said! There are some amazing things in there.
The Positivity Project is a year-round event where you guys can spread positive vibes to your friends and random members. Make them feel just as at home as you do. The last couple challenges for the 10K event are put up so be sure to participate. Also, the Pride Event is beginning and it's got so many little mini-events happening within it. Take a peek, there's something for everyone. Go show your support, share your story or even just read other people's stories. We want to celebrate everyone!
We are pleased to announce that MercPhish and Kara Zor-El have joined the MatchMaking team and are ready to match you! Don't know what they are about?! You can find them below the Event's Forum; they're super helpful and wonderful people.
There was an overwhelming amount of people who partook in the 10,000 Event, and while it's still finishing up, on behalf of the staff and the Community Mods, I want to thank you for participating and making it a success. We learned what works and doesn't work when doing a giant event like that. And we will take in all of your input to make it better for you on the next one!
And last but not least, the couriers are adding some brand new features to the newsletter. There will be a new Pop and Fiction article, Critics Corner for books and games and a new featured thread. Another new feature will be the member's shout out page. This page is a place for members to send thank you's or messages of positivity to other members of GP. To send your own message just PM Phoenix<3 and let her know who it is for and what you want it to say. Keep spreading the love. <3

June 2017
Hi Folks,
Siren here, and this will be my last article on Scandalous. I've enjoyed keeping you updated with current events, but our fabulous admin Pink will be taking over my monthly offering. She will be expanding on the news I offer and giving you a flavour of all things admin on GP.
Hi, guys!
So, as Siren said, I’ll be taking this over; this is my first article, so apologies if this isn’t what you’re used to! I’d like to start by dispelling a myth that Admins are scary, and the truth is, we’re not. We’re people too! We like to laugh and have fun; we have jobs and interests much like yourselves! We also love GP, and if you have questions, comments, feedback etc., please feel send any one of us a message (or Siren if you’re more comfortable with that).

10K Greek event
Thank you to all our amazing writing gladiators for participating in our 10K Greek Event. While most of the events and categories are over, there are currently new events that you can check out in the 10K Greek Event forums. Many of us were really impressed by your heart wrenching, and creative entries and artistic designs. We hope you all enjoyed partaking in this summer event. Please visit our Honors page to view our winners thus far. Thank you!
New Events
Not enough? We have a secret writing event in store. . . . Stay tuned for more information.
GP's Month of Respect
You still have time to give your respectful shout-outs to members and staff who have made a difference. You might even be pleasantly surprised and be mentioned yourself! For more information, reach out to Kalinda.

Cosplay
Do you love cosplay? Do you enjoy dressing up? Stay tuned for GP Cosplay Meets, brought to you by our very own AidanJay!
Guidelines
Staff as a whole will be changing how we announce things altogether; we’ll be attempting to cut down the use of the member tag by utilizing the newsletter, as well as announcing things all together in the same post. Now, we can’t promise that we won't ever use it in between but we will be trying since there are a few of you that don’t like the member tag being used as frequently, or infrequently sometimes, as it is now! And to supplement my article I will do announcements for big rule changes or major announcements the second Saturday of the month, every month!
We will be announcing in the next little while changes to the site rules, and our lovely Ethics Ambassador and our Soul Ambassador, Awesomely Awkward Allie & Klugario respectively, will be working alongside us Admins to make sure they are clear and easy to understand! So keep an eye out for those.

Staff Changes
In the past month, there have been some major staff changes: Lawliet and Kismet have resigned after just over a year of service, and we hope that they continue to be the best people that they can be. AllMyVices is now an Admin. In addition, Klugario has stepped up into Vices’ old place as Soul Ambassador, and Kalinda is now our lovely Communications' Ambassador. Muse has recently been chosen as Style Ambassador. We also added a new Global Moderator: StarsAura! She’s lovely and will be there for you when you need her. Go say hi sometime.
A Word from Siren
Going into the summer we have more in store for you. As always, if you have ideas for events or would like to discuss any suggestions, drop me a message anytime, Siren.
-_-
Before I hand things over to Pink, I just want to thank you all for reading, and I hope you message me anytime you wish! *huggles* Siren
A Word from Pink
At this point, I’m going to open the forum here; once a month I will pick a member question in regards to the site and what you all would like to see. So send me a message and I will answer it, anonymously of course. You can ask about features or an event you might like or just have a comment you’d like some feedback on!
I look forward to coming here every month, taking your feedback and getting a chance to give you a sneak peek at the staff side of things.

Lastly on this little update, as some of you may know, user Auditore (or is it Sirencall) is setting up a fun new event called Member Swap, where members can swap mannerisms, emojis and.. well you name it… to prank and confuse other members for a bit of fun!! Check out the Community Challenge page to find this thread. To join the fun, you should have PMed Auditore by March 29th, 2017.

October 2016
Whodunit?
For the months of June through August, Guilty Pleasures had a special event, the first Annual "Whodunit Murder Mystery Event"! While it may be over now, it'll be back next summer so be sure to try and participate if you gain some interest! I can honestly say that everyone that participated seemed to have fun.

Here was the premise of the entire site wide role-play:
The town of Guilty Pleasures has been around for many years and although the exact founding date has been lost to history, it is common knowledge that it was founded on the principles of fairness, compassion, communication, and community by a wise and benevolent countess who left the city where she lived to start over with nothing but hope for a better place to call home. When the countess started she was all alone and things were difficult but soon others of a like mind and spirit began to gather around and the rest was history.
Today the humble town of Guilty Pleasures is over seen by the descendant of that countess, the Lady xWickedBlackLace and her lover Lady Kiwi. Though Lacey, as those that have come to know her call her, technically own all the property of the town, she has seen much good come from the town and has let the town folk run their own business. Lady Lacey and Lady Kiwi sit on a town counsel with the business owners of the town, that way everyone would have representation.
The Objective of the RP:
Each week a lucky (or unlucky, it all depends on how it's viewed) beloved staff member, who has a specific role in the rp (though given that we are staff our characters maybe more NPC) will be killed of by a group of killers. It is the towns job to find, try and execute the killers and SURVIVE the killing. If in the end one killer is left, he/she is the winner. If all killers are gone the surviving members who make up the town wins.

I, plumflower, want to thank each and everyone who joined and made it a wonderful success. ♥♥
