Pandora (Pan)
Featured Character with LadyRifton
by Knit_orious
Welcome to another Character feature spotlight! This month's character feature will be following LadyRiften’s character Pandora (or Pan, for short). The story follows the rebellious down to earth princess who’s thirst for adventure and the outside world ends up being a little more than she expected.
With the impending pressure of marriage, the pursuit of mercenaries after her throat, and the company of the man she is unknowingly supposed to be marrying, she finally makes her way to the world outside of the cities walls. We’ll start off by asking LadyRiften herself a few questions!

Knit: Thank you for your participation LadyRiften! For our first question, we’ll start off by informing our audience! Can you give us a short description of how your character looks and their personality?
LadyRiften: Pan is 5'4 in height, longer hair red, and brown eyes, pale skin with lots of freckles. Carries a bow and dresses like a man which is an uncommon look for a princess. She is rebellious [and] kind, but very stubborn and outspoken.
LadyRiften: I always make my characters up for each new Rp, I never have previously made characters because it's just something I've never done. I had an idea in mind for pan and I just went with it, plain and simple. What inspired my character..simply the fact that I myself in real life act like pan a little.
Knit: Are you personally a fan of this character?
LadyRiften: Yes I'm personally a fan of my character. One of the better ones I've created so far.
Knit: Is there anything you think you could have done better with Pan?
LadyRiften: I wish I would have worked on handling how she treated people better. She is a little bit of a bitch.
Knit: What do you like About your character?
LadyRiften: What I like about my character is how outspoken and brave she is even if she is a princess, you wouldn't really guess she was royalty by the act she acts.
Knit: Do you have any advice to others on how to improve their own characters?
LadyRiften: Honestly... I'm the last person you should ask advice on... So I don't really know how to answer that since I'm still learning myself.

Knit: Very down to earth answers! I quote admire that! Now we’ll go ahead and ask Princess Pandora herself a few questions and get some insight on how this character responds to her own situation. From my understanding, you’ve always been quite the spitfire! Is there any reason why you hate being a part of royalty so much?
Pandora: Because royalty may have glory and riches, they may have everything anyone could ever ask for, but they are not truly free. I guess [why] I hate being a princess so much is because I want to have the same choices as everyday normal people do. I wish to fall in love of my own free will and do anything I want. Money really doesn't buy happiness.
Knit: I see. I realize you’ve gotten yourself into quite the situation, how are you feeling about going out on your own when you haven’t really intended to?
Pandora: Honestly, I'm scared to death, I've always craved adventure, yes that's true, but on the other hand... what if I die? I could seriously get hurt, anything could happen but on the other hand I'm thrilled to finally be free even if it's only for two weeks. I'm ready to explore. Besides who isn't scared to death about leaving home for the first time?
Knit: Do you think it would be a good idea to reveal yourself as the princess to Jarad or do you intend to keep that a secret as long as possible?
Pandora: I intend to reveal myself as the princess to Jarad when the time is right. But at this moment with the royal guards and murderers on our asses I don't think it would be the best time to suddenly spring this on him. Besides, what if he treats me differently after finding out my true identity?
Knit: I’ve seen you have a pet wolf? Was he rambunctious as a puppy?
Pandora: Yes, Slayer was quite the rambunctious pup, but not at first because he was very small and he had been starved when my father bought him from a merchant but once he got well he was very playful but he loves to sleep on my bed and protect me.
Knit: Well I have one last question for you Princess: Do you think you’re mentally ready to embark on an adventure of your own?
Pandora: Yes, I truly believe I'm ready to go on this journey but then again who is ever truly ready for anything? I've got my friends at my side and the horizon in the distance what is there to think about? What's stopping me? I've always been ready.

Knit: Haha! Well I’m glad to hear you have so much confidence in yourself! We’ll conclude our interview here. I would like to give a big “Thank you,” to lady Riften for letting me interview her and her character, it was quite the treat! Rebellious characters have always had a special little niche in my heart. Check out her RP “The Arrangement” If you’d like to keep up with whats going on with Pandora and her new partner Jarad. Until next time I hope every has a spoopy halloween! Don’t eat too much sugar and watch out for creepy clowns in your sewers!

For this month's character feature I’d like to introduce ElysiumGuardian and his character, Faelan! His RP takes place in a fairly modern setting where his protagonist lives as a demon hunter at a top secret organization. He is crass, rude, and quite a bit stubborn. After the death of his sister he recklessly attempts to gain a better footing in the demon hunting world by ironically being bonded to a demon to harness her power. First, we’ll ask the creator himself a few questions and then turn it over to Faelan to answer a few himself. I won’t waste anymore time so let’s jump right in!
Knit:
Well thank you very much for participating in this interview! I'll start off with the question, “What do you see in this character that you see in yourself?”
Elysium:
Well, the concept behind Faelan Bystrom was actually the harder parts of my life. Just missing the better parts, and the obvious lack of fictional stress relief that is killing demons. I try to make my characters distinctly unique though, so I can't say there is too much of myself in my character, or of my character in me. In fact, if anything, he's quite a step away from my actual personality, I like to think things through, and Faelan likes to let anger tell him what to do. I'm pretty health conscious and Faelan can easily consider his best friends to be Captain Morgan and Jack Daniels.
Knit:
What was the inspiration behind this character?
Elysium:
Oh, I guess I already kind of answered that in question one. RIP. Faelan's past is pretty dark, and I had a rough childhood, but like I said, his isn't something he really grew out of. Instead, it turned him into who he is now, and he lets it fuel him somewhat. He's angry with his life, and takes it out on those around him, something most of my other characters don't have to struggle with. It was an interesting style of writing I hadn't done and wanted to try out.
Knit:
Did your character inspire the plot of your RP or did the RP inspire the character?
Elysium:
A little bit of both. The overall story behind this RP is a bit darker than any of the other ones I currently have going, so he has a messed up backstory to help fit the more aggressive style of the RP. But on the same note, we had a general idea of our characters and their roles and how that would integrate with the flow of the story. So the story was based a little bit around how the characters would interact before they were ever made.
Knit:
What are some aspects of your character you want to portray the most when RPing?
Elysium:
Definitely his aggression and inability to handle stress well. While I like to think I make most of my characters have enough flaws to not seem Mary Sue, Faelan definitely takes the cake for my most fucked up character. Dealing with not only being orphaned at a young age by being abandoned, then raised with his twin sister (who recently passed away from cancer) in an orphanage that gets ransacked by demons, on top of his general tendency to cope with stress via violence or alcohol.
Knit:
Is the character creation process something you like to take a lot of time on or do you just play it by ear and let the character develop by themselves?
Elysium:
Most of the time I develop the plot extensively before ever starting the actual roleplay, weeding out any partners who want to [do] just weird furry smut for example. I think that good planning of the actual plot leads to a successful RP, and that any characters with a decent writer will fall into place to match the plot. Faelan had a very basic backstory to go by, and most of it was more made up on the spot to give his character some flavor, but it was designed and inspired by the plot which my partner and I worked on for a few months before ever actually starting. I'd like to think that the on-the-spot style of his character creation works well to match the extensive planning of the plot, since there is a fairly distinct view of what your character will be doing throughout the RP.
Knit:
What advice could you give for developing a character throughout an RP?
Elysium:
Developing a character should come fairly easy with a dynamic enough character, and that development doesn't always have to be a big ordeal either. Tiny things like having your character try to stop smoking or falling deeper into a bad drinking habit are both changes that people will see reflecting off your character, even giving you some more incentive to explain your characters in style. Explaining how they deal with those changes that they might not have control over can always be a fun opportunity to develop a character, keep them from being a stale Mary Sue.
Knit:
Well alrighty, thank you so much! Let’s go to your character Faelan and ask him a few questions, shall we? So, Faelan, give us a brief explanation of what's happening in your life right now.
---------------------------------------------------
Faelan:
Well, I've got more issues than I have alcohol, which is a pain in the ass. I have to deal with being in hell, stuck to a lizard I only kind of don't hate, and surrounded by plenty of things I really do hate.
Knit:
Could you explain the kind of world you come from?
Faelan:
Have you not been to Earth? Its name literally means dirt. There's too much to explain about it, and I honestly don't give enough current fucks to be bothered.
Knit:
What do you like people to know about you when you first meet them?
Faelan:
My favorite kind of booze. It's free by the way. Free booze. A beautiful ass and a couple of regrets go pretty well with that.
Knit:
What do you think the future holds for you?
Faelan:
Fucking lemons?
Knit:
What are some qualities you wish you could change about yourself?
Faelan:
I wish I was better at finding alcoholic sunscreen, and worse at finding shit that wants me dead.
Knit:
Why have you resorted to demon hunting in your life?
Faelan:
Resorted? What makes you think I "resorted" to this? Plenty of normal people willingly join the military. Millions of people have thrown their lives away fighting wars with themselves. I'm doing something a step above that bullshit. Notice how you don't see accounts of demons ripping people to shreds in the streets? That's because people like me enjoy doing what we do. Keeping demons where they belong, hell.
Knit:
Well, um, on that note do you like where you are in your life right now?
Faelan:
I am literally in hell.

This month we’re going to find out about Zion Aoiros’s character Aicara!
by Le Petit Prince
Le Petit Prince: Could you tell me a bit about your character to start off with?
Zion: She was made on the spot and originally I intended for her to be evil.
Le Petit Prince: Intended for her to be evil?!
Zion: I did indeed. She was intended to be deceptive and cruel. But, she obviously had other plans.
Le Petit Prince: What happened to make you change her character?
Zion: I don't entirely know when it comes to my characters. I kind of get a base idea and based on their experiences and who they meet, they become who they are. She happened to meet a man who has always been very very down on his luck. He ended up becoming her original lover, entirely by accident; there was no planning whatsoever on either person's part. They just clicked into place.
Le Petit Prince: Do previous roleplays, relationships and stuff Aicara has been through affect her character permanently?
Zion: In a way, yes, but she like all the others is subject to change depending on who and what happens. Like us ourselves they can evolve, adapt and change.
Le Petit Prince: How did you come up with her name? It’s very unique.
Zion: I take letters I like and just smoosh them together until I get something I like, or I take words from other languages and smoosh those with other things.
Le Petit Prince: If you had to assign a trope or stereotype to Aicara, what one would it be?
Zion: Mmm, my guess would be she falls under the motherly type. She's the sort who would pick up a crying baby even if it wasn't hers to help it feel better. That and the fact that she isn't afraid of anyone for any reason.
Le Petit Prince: If Aicara needed a fluffy jumper to wear, what kind of design would be on it?
Zion: It would probably be black with blue roses, with a vine design.
Now we’ll find out about Aicara from Aicara!
Le Petit Prince: If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
Aicara: Normally, I wouldn't do such things, but for the sake of your question, I'll pretend that I will have played it at least once. Should I have won the lottery, I myself would put most of it away while using some of it to pay for the house where I live with my family. Later on, I would put it to use in sending them to good schools where they can work towards the job they wish to do. I think the remainder should there be any would be saved for emergencies.
Le Petit Prince: What's your favourite thing about yourself?
Aicara: I'd have to say the skill I possess with a needle and thread. There is little I cannot mend or create with them. I also find it enjoyable to do such things as making items of clothing for others.
Le Petit Prince: Describe your perfect day.
Aicara: My perfect day is when I can spend it with my family and at the end of the day everyone is still happy. (Zion said family doesn't get along very well--it's actually pretty bad.)
Le Petit Prince: If you had a superpower, what would you want?
Aicara: I would never want a superpower, those abilities are much too dangerous, even in the right hands.

A voice is heard over the earpiece you’ve put in. He sounds like a man who thinks quite highly of himself, who places himself above everyone. You decide you like him even less now. You pull out a notebook and pen, ready to start the interview. “Tell me about this…
Eventually, you reach a room, possibly a drawing room. He hands you an earpiece and tells you to make yourself at home. There’s already some hot tea on a coffee table between the two chairs. A hot tea would be great right now, but you know better than to trust this sadist and resist the urge to pour yourself a cup. Who knows what may have been put in there.
He leads you around the castle, you follow him even if you do so reluctantly. This man could easily kill you or simply keep you as one of his victims. Your mind starts racing, thinking of all the terrible things you’ve done in your life. Any of them this man could hold against you. No one knows where you are, no one even knows you’ve left. It would be so easy for you to simply disappear and live the rest of your life here in this castle.
The door creaks open, making everything just a little more ominous than before. You glance around, looking for any sign of life. All of a sudden, a man appears before you. He’s clearly not the man you’re looking for. He tells you as much and leads you up a grand set of stairs.
A castle looms over you. It would have been quite beautiful if you didn’t know what dark secrets lay within and if you didn’t have to enter alone. The rush of adrenaline is the only thing keeping you awake right now after the long flight and then boat ride all the way out to the middle of nowhere. You’re not even sure where you are since you had to be blindfolded the whole time. It must be somewhere up north, though, judging by how fucking cold it is! You take a deep breath in and decide to go inside before you freeze.
"You have going on here.” You start. He complies and tells you how it works.
This castle is used as something like a prison. This voice keeps people captive and subjects them to all sorts of torture to fulfil some sort of twisted fantasy he must have. For example, a rapist may be punished by acting as a housewife or hooker to learn exactly just how his victims felt. A murderer may be punished by having to watch one of his loved ones die.
All the kidnapped victims here are equipped with an earpiece like your own, through which they are given tasks they must complete, otherwise they’ll suffer an electric shock. If they do complete their tasks, they are rewarded and eventually set free. Unfortunately, the tasks they are subjected to changes them drastically. They forget whoever they were before, they’re completely broken.
Hearing it coming from the Voice, the very man who orchestrates all of this chills you to the bone. You still remain professional, though, determined to get answers from the man.
Why do you do this? You ask.
"It's a matter of giving back go this beautiful world that I am a part of. You see, the world has given me so much in the form of money and power I figured it was time to give back and fix some of the wrongs in society. Did I mention I get off on at as well.?" He laughed loud and carefree.
You’re glad there is just an earpiece in your ear. He can’t see how disgusted you are this way.
Who has been your favorite... victim... so far?
"Well that would have to be the womanizer; he came in on top of the world. A little rich boy who treated everyone like objects. Well he's the object now. I think he broke when he was made to play a part of the bimbo. He couldn't shake the being a bimbo part. I mean that was after he was a hooker, a housewife and a bride. I just think it was that one that tipped him over the edge. He couldn't stop walking or talking femininely. He's a good member of society now. I think last I heard he was a stripper."
How do you come up with all your different situations you use to break people?
"I draw on stereotypes. If you've seen a 50s TV show with a housewife and husband, that's your family. Hookers are dirty and just want sex. Blondes are dumb, and they're bimbos. Jocks are dumb and want sex. Every stereotype you can think of is in this house. If society wants to corrupt someone why should I stop it? Instead, I'll encourage it."
Can you think of any sort of trauma in your childhood that may have made you this way? I don't think normal people usually kidnap and break people's minds...
A surge of electricity pulses through the earpiece flowing to every point of the journalist's body. "That wasn't a very nice question, was it? It almost sounded like you were a little offended at what I was doing. Let's skip that question as I didn't find it to be 'kind.' I seem to have given away how I keep people in check, though. I can send any amount of electricity coursing through your body from that little earpiece. Oh, the things my engineers have come up with for meme. You won't become one of my experiments. I didn't find enough dirt in your past for you to be a burden. But you should be careful what you say to others." The Voice over the earpiece laughed.
You jolt in your seat as your muscles contract from the electricity. It took you by surprise, which only made it more painful. It takes you a moment to regain your composure. You’ve gotten a fair amount of information from the Voice and you’re not all too keen to continue. You thank the Voice for taking the time to do this and gather your things and hurry to the exit only to find it’s locked.
“You didn’t think I’d let you leave so soon, did you?”a

Welcome to the premiere of the Feature Character
by Le Petit Prince
Here I (Le Petit Prince) will be conducting interviews with character creators and the characters themselves to discover all sorts of secrets about the character making process and secrets about the characters themselves. All of the characters that will be featured are available in GP’s ‘Character Catalogue’ so make sure to check out their profiles there.
Today’s interview is with Jaybird and her character Charlie. It was super fun to see a different perspective on character creation and I hope you find it interesting too :33
f course, the first step in character creation is getting inspired. Maybe they came to you in a dream, maybe you designed them specifically to fall in love or absolutely hate another person's character or just some random traits mashed together to form something beautifully unique. For Jaybird, it’s a spur of the moment thing. She's inspired by plotlines to form a vague idea of a character. Charlie was inspired by an opening post in the ‘open roleplays’ section where you can write your own intro post and simply wait for someone to reply. Those few paragraphs inspired a whole person, which I find pretty amazing.
Personally, I have premade characters that I reuse for my own roleplays, changing a few things about them if I need to. Creating a character on the spot for every different roleplay is just something I cannot do. It’s fascinating to find out about how this style of creation can work and how realistic those characters can be. Jaybird’s style definitely isn’t the wrong way to do things and has many positives. Twisting your character to fit into a different setting can transform them into completely different people. I feel she put it best saying: ‘My characters have their own lives and it’s hard for me to see them in a different setting than the one they were originally made for.’
Another very important step in creating a character is choosing their names and appearance. Similar to how Jaybird became originally inspired with Charlie, she got a vague idea of her looks along with her personality. It just felt right to make her a brunette. Charlie’s full name is Charlotte Lincoln. She got that name because of a personal preference of Jaybirds for nicknames that could be masculine names. She says: ‘Just the thought of someone misunderstanding is funny.’
Charlie’s profession is an Architect which isn’t something you can just go out and do. You need a degree and lots of training. It’s a lot more than just doing some research on the internet and although I’m sure Jaybird loves her characters, she’s probably not about to go take a five-year course on architecture just to be able to play one perfectly. Jaybird did admit to not knowing much about Charlie’s particular profession but did say she would be interested in actually becoming one if she had the right skills. Forcing what you wanted to do as a child but never got to on your own children probably isn’t the best idea but on your characters, that’s perfectly acceptable.
To finish off the interview with Jaybird I asked her to finish off the sentence. Charlie is the kind of person who… She replied with: ‘Charlie is the kind of person who would stay up all night to binge watch a show on Netflix.’ It’s important to make your characters realistic and relatable, I find that statement also sums up a lot of us too.

After I finished the interview I asked if Charlie would be willing to answer a few questions for us too. So, here she is.
Q. What are your goals in life?
A. There are only two I can think of right now which are to write a book and to be happy. I really want to leave my mark on this world so I'm remembered long after I'm gone and I want to create a world for other people to get lost in. When I'm really tired and the world is just being a bitch, I love to read about places that aren't real so if only for a while, I can relax and take my mind off of my troubles. I want to create something like that for other people.

Q. It sounds like you like to read a lot of fantasy. So we know what you like to read but where do you like to read?
A. I read pretty much everywhere. Haha. General statement. I know. I check books out from the library or buy them from bookstores and I read from the internet too (which is a lot cheaper but quality isn't guaranteed.) I mean it literally though when I say everywhere.
Q. What's your favourite flavour of ice cream?
A. My favorite flavor of ice cream is actually mint chip, but there was once I had this really too Daiquiri flavored one. If I could ever try it again, it would probably come out on top.
Q. What's your most embarrassing moment?
A. My most embarrassing moment was probably when I was at the grocery store and dropped an entire carton of eggs. I felt really bad about it…

Thank you so much to Jaybird for being so willing to answer my questions even after spilling burning hot soup on your hand. I certainly find it difficult to create characters on the spot and have them believable and real. Charlie sounds like a dynamite gal who is definitely relatable (binging Netflix makes up most of my free time.) Hopefully, we’ll get to get see more of her in action in the future.
