There is a lot of grief for the person who writes an incredible opening only for it to never be answered. Although I never had the horrible experience of what I'm suggesting it is like, I am by no means diminishing the actual event, so forgive me if it offends. The roleplay is stillborn.
The person who writes an opening of any roleplay is like a mother. He/She is giving birth to it. That's what is it, too, when you look at what it takes to get to that stage.
It can take up to one month or more of planning in PMs, which no one ever sees, to get to the final product which you see in these forums. That can easily be likened to conception and prenatal, as the child (roleplay) is shaped by two... And yes, it does take two to get the process going. We who see an interesting opening and read it (several of the ones listed that aren't mine, I have read). I can't imagine how many ideas were tossed to the side during the "prebirth" or hours of back and forth, except for my two. Many of these are far better at planning than I... And that's not opinion, it's fact, as I have roleplays with a few and others, I've read. It's amazing the detail, but don't take my word for it. Look at them yourself.

It's disappointing when one thinks there's genuine interest, but the "partner" turns out they weren't that interested. I'm going to go just on the title of one, and explain what had to be done for that opening to take place. I'm not really picking on Harry the Cat... He's cool and has one other besides this that was abandoned. To Serve Only You on page 19 of Taboo and dated January 19th of this year.
Sounds like: A nice maid/master story... Or even genie... Or waitress/favorite customer. That's just off the title. Already three ideas for pairings. That's conception. When one is contacted or contacts someone to do a roleplay, that is the first thing, usually, that's mentioned. "I'm interested in this pairing." The building process commences from there. Many of the questions I ask is... "How should they meet; how should this start? What setting are we using? What are their ages?"
As the two of you discuss the different possibilities and scenarios, already a title should be forming in both "parents'" minds. After all, if this bears fruit and something is agreed upon... Someone has to give birth to it. There are a lot of times that both partners want something specific for their baby. If it's only a maybe kink, or the other is unsure about it, a counteroffer is presented. Finally a compromise is reached, and with that hurdle jumped, the next stage is discussed.
"What exactly are we wanting to say?" This is basically, what kind of genre is this? Slice of Life? Comedy? Drama? What are our characters roles? Are we doing sex than the consequences? Or are we going to lead up to the big event? Or is there going to be playing around throughout the roleplay? Is there going to be innuendo? Or no sex at all? My biggest kink personally, is playing a virgin to sex, so that leading up to the big event, the character experiences growth and/or embarrassing feelings they have to cope with.
Another big factor can be summed up in one word. "When?" This means when is this taking place? What era in the past? Is it modern? Or is it in the future? If it's canon, when is it taking place there? For comic book characters, those questions are usually, "Golden or Silver or modern age?" From there, it's specifics.
As you can see, so much goes into just the planning that it can physically hurt when the partner abandons it before it's even begun. All that work for what? An orphaned opening... Or stillborn roleplay. It's also painful when a play is dropped without good reason or no contact a few posts in... But that can be saved for an op-ed piece.
Below are the titles of orphaned openings from our members, who in my opinion, need a shout out from you for encouragement... But only after reading the opening:
